KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 3): The Perak State Development Corporation (PKNPk) and Global Vision Lab Sdn Bhd (GVL) are exploring a proposal for an artificial intelligence (AI) data centre development in Perak.
So far, only a non-disclosure agreement and a letter of consent have been signed so both parties can exchange information and hold preliminary assessments for the project.
This data centre would be used to meet the growing demand for AI computing, high–performance computing and graphics processing unit-based applications across Malaysia and the region, with a planned power capacity exceeding 100MW.
As the initiative is still in the preliminary assessment phase, the full scope and power capacity is still to be determined.
Under the agreement, PKNPk will be in charge of coordinating state-level stakeholders while GVL leads the development planning and assessments.
Itman Service Center (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and Future Quantum Co Ltd have also been mentioned as project partners, though their roles are yet to be finalised.
This proposal is part of an effort to strengthen Perak’s role in Malaysia’s digital ecosystem. The preliminary assessment is to focus on site suitability, power supply availability, cooling system, network connectivity and related infrastructure requirements.
“The initiative supports the aspirations of Perak Sejahtera 2030 and creates opportunities for Perak to emerge as a destination for the development of high-technology digital infrastructure,” said PKNPk chief executive Datuk Redza Rafiq in a release.
Additionally, the data centre could also bring high-skilled job opportunities, strengthen local supply chains and increase AI adoption across sectors.
