SHAH ALAM (Oct 31): The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has contracted Influenza A and has been advised to rest for five to seven days to ensure a full recovery.

Istana Alam Shah said in a statement on Saturday that the Sultan's personal physicians, Datuk Dr Anuar Onah and Datuk Dr Tan Hui Meng, detected symptoms of the infection on Friday morning after he developed a high fever and body weakness.

The statement said the Selangor ruler is believed to have contracted the virus while attending public functions and interacting with members of the public, including at outdoor events.

“His Royal Highness's health is gradually improving, although he still has a fever. The attending doctors have advised him to rest and refrain from attending any functions for five to seven days to allow for a full recovery,” it said.

Following the development, the investiture ceremony for Selangor state honours, scheduled for Sunday, Nov 1, in conjunction with the silver jubilee celebration of the Sultan's reign, has been postponed to Nov 7.

Istana Alam Shah urged all parties involved to take note of the revised date and thanked them for their cooperation and understanding.

It also called on the public to pray for the Sultan's speedy recovery and continued good health.
