KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 31): SD Guthrie Bhd (KL:SDG) has set its sights on delivering higher shareholder returns, with its new president and group chief executive officer Mohd Haris Mohd Arshad tasked with building on the foundations laid by his predecessor.

The plantation giant is targeting top-quartile total shareholder returns within the plantation industry by 2032, banking on growth across its upstream, midstream, downstream and industrial development businesses to achieve that ambition.

Its relatively new industrial development segment has already emerged as a significant earnings contributor, while Mohd Haris, drawing on his background as a commodities trader, is looking to strengthen the group's midstream operations and expand its downstream business.

Yet, even as SD Guthrie ventures further beyond its traditional plantation business, upstream operations will remain its core.

As SD Guthrie charts its next phase of growth, what role will each of its four business segments play in delivering the higher returns sought by shareholders? And how does Mohd Haris intend to balance the group's diversification ambitions with its plantation roots?
