KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 30): Ting Mee Land Sdn Bhd has held the official groundbreaking for its 44-acre integrated development, Garden Bay City, in Kerteh, Kemaman, where Phase 1 of its commercial lifestyle hub, The Walk, has achieved a 90% sales take-up rate, according to a press statement issued on Oct 27.
The developer, a subsidiary under Garden World Group, highlighted that construction works for the current phase had reached approximately 25% completion prior to the official ceremony.
Officiated by Terengganu Local Government, Housing and Health Committee chairman Datuk Wan Sukairi Wan Abdullah, the event was held at the Grand Tapis Ballroom in Kelab Golf & Rekreasi Petronas.
Garden World Group managing director Wong Nian Foong said: "Reaching this milestone has taken five years of perseverance, sacrifice and difficult decisions. Behind the ceremony are years of coordination and substantial groundwork to prepare the site for its next chapter."
Site preparation involved relocating and resolving infrastructure matters including electrical substations, sewage pumping facilities, underground gas pipelines, and road reserve requirements, along with building demolitions.
Meanwhile, The Walk is planned to comprise 72 commercial units overall. The company secured strategic tenancy partnerships with retail brands including Hock Kee Kopitiam, FamilyMart, and The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.
Upcoming commercial tenants in the pipeline include a fitness centre, a premium grocery retailer, home and living stores, a pharmacy, and additional food-and-beverage outlets.
The wider masterplan envisages landed homes, serviced apartments, a branded hotel, a private healthcare centre, and community amenities.
The development is located approximately five minutes by car from the planned Kemasik East Coast Rail Link station, with commercial operations targeted by Malaysia Rail Link as early as mid-December 2026.
Garden Bay City has also achieved GreenRE Bronze Provisional Certification, making it the first township in Terengganu to attain this green benchmark.
