KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 27): Police arrested two men to assist in investigations into the detention of a tanker vessel, MT Global 168, found to be carrying 1.16 tonnes of ketamine, by Indonesian authorities.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said both suspects, in their 40s, have been remanded for seven days from Monday under Section 34 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
One of the men is a director of Makmur Marine Petroleum Sdn Bhd, the vessel owner, and the other is the vessel’s sales broker or agent, he added.
"Preliminary investigations indicated that the ship was purchased last April for the purpose of resale after being repaired for profit.
“On June 28, MT Global 168 was sold to Golden Dolphin Co Ltd, locate in Yangon, Myanmar through the agent,” he said in a statement on Tuesday, adding that they have identified three other individuals, a Singaporean, a Taiwanese and a Myanmar national, to assist with investigations.
He stressed that the NCID would work with Indonesian authorities and related enforcement agencies in sharing intelligence, tracking down suspects and follow up actions, and urged those with information about the incident to contact the NCID hotline at (012) 2087 222.
