JAKARTA (Oct 26): The amount of natural gas being supplied by Indonesia to Singapore is still meeting the minimum level stipulated under a contract between them despite a reduction, Indonesia's energy minister said on Monday.

As of Saturday, Indonesia cut 31 million standard cubic feet of gas per day from its pipelined natural gas exports to Singapore to divert supply to the domestic power sector.

Minister Bahlil Lahadalia was responding to Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong's remark on Sunday that he expected all parties in commercial contracts to honour their commitments.

"Our nation is a nation that honours contracts, rules," Bahlil told a press conference. "So don't teach Indonesia on how to honour contracts".

The gas is being redirected to meet electricity needs in Batam, Bintan and Sumatra, the chief of Indonesia's upstream oil and gas regulator said.

Batam and several cities in Indonesia's Riau Islands province suffered a blackout that lasted 16 hours earlier this month.

Bahlil had last week said he would prioritise natural resources use for domestic needs and review contracts to maintain energy security.
