SEPANG (Oct 26): The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) has developed hologram technology to be deployed at the satellite building of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1, to assist travellers in obtaining information regarding arrival procedures in the country.
AKPS deputy director general (management) Ismail Mokhtar said this initiative is part of the agency's efforts to leverage technology to make it easier for travellers to access necessary information upon their arrival in Malaysia.
He noted that the development of this hologram was inspired by an initiative from the Home Ministry, which installed a hologram of Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail in the lobby of the Setia Perkasa Complex.
"Just as the Ministry of Home Affairs placed a hologram of the minister in the lobby of the Setia Perkasa Complex, the AKPS shares the same vision and mission. We have created a hologram to be stationed at the KLIA satellite building, which will provide arriving travellers with information on the requirements they need to fulfil upon entry into the country," he said.
He made these remarks while speaking at the AKPS 2nd Anniversary Celebration held here on Monday, which was officiated Home Ministry secretary general Datuk Dr Awang Alik Jeman.
In a separate development, Ismail said the AKPS aims to have 1,259 containers carrying electrical and electronic waste (e-waste) exported out of the country by the end of this year.
He explained that this target follows the government's successful export of e-waste containers earlier this year, a feat achieved for the first time through a task force led by the agency.
"The issue of e-waste importation demonstrates that the threats at the nation's entry points are becoming increasingly complex. Enforcement goes beyond merely detaining containers, it encompasses document verification, technical inspections, identifying the parties responsible, and monitoring follow-up actions," he said.
During the event, the AKPS also launched its 2026-2030 Strategic Plan, which serves not only as a reference document but also as an operational guide for its officers.
Additionally, the AKPS unveiled a new logo featuring a red eagle symbolising the agency's sharpness and state of readiness with a sundang (a traditional sword), representing courage and discipline.
Meanwhile, Awang Alik noted that the home minister, who was initially scheduled to attend the celebration, could not be present due to an urgent, unavoidable assignment that arose at the last minute.
He mentioned that Saifuddin Nasution extended his apologies to all AKPS personnel for being unable to join in the celebration of the agency’s second anniversary.
"The honourable minister also expressed his apologies to everyone present today (Monday), as he was tasked at the last minute with an extremely important and unavoidable duty," he said.
He added that the home minister conveyed his regards, along with his congratulations and appreciation to all AKPS personnel, for their commitment and dedication in upholding the trust placed in them to safeguard the nation's security and border sovereignty.
Earlier, the absence of both Saifuddin Nasution and AKPS director general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain drew the attention of the press.
On Oct 21, Mohd Shuhaily was charged in the Magistrate's Court with two counts of causing injury to two police officers.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges. The Sepang Magistrate’s Court has set Nov 25 as the date for the case mention and the submission of documents.
On Oct 24, Saifuddin Nasution reportedly said the Home Ministry has entrusted matters concerning the position of the director general of the AKPS to the secretary general of the Home Ministry and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
