BANGI (Oct 24): Selangor is targeting RM90 billion in investments this year, up from RM80 billion recorded last year, following encouraging investment momentum in the state.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government is confident of continuing to attract domestic and foreign investments through efforts to strengthen economic competitiveness and provide a conducive environment for investors.
“We are targeting RM90 billion in investments this year based on Selangor’s potential and investment performance,” he said when officiating the Madani Kita Komuniti Sungai Ramal programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan Jalan 3, Bandar Baru Bangi, here on Saturday.
Selangor previously recorded RM70 billion in approved investments in the first half of 2026, providing a basis for the state government to raise its annual investment target.
The performance has further strengthened Selangor’s position as one of the country’s leading investment destinations, particularly in the manufacturing and services sectors, he said.
Amirudin said Selangor also contributed 26.5 per cent to the country’s Gross Domestic Product, making it one of the main drivers of Malaysia’s economic activity.
He said the state’s economy is currently valued at an estimated RM460 billion and is expected to reach RM500 billion within the next two years.
He was previously reported as saying that Selangor’s strong investment performance was also driven by the state government’s consistent strategy of conducting overseas investment missions, including to France, Germany, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea.
Meanwhile, he said the state’s economic and investment performance must be accompanied by efforts to ensure that the people also benefitted from the growth.
The government needed to balance efforts to attract investments and create job opportunities by implementing initiatives to help the people cope with the rising cost of living, he added.
Amirudin said this approach is in line with the principle of “Reaching for the sky, while anchored on our values”, which emphasises ensuring that achievements on the international stage go hand in hand with efforts to safeguard the well-being of the community.
He said the state government also continued to review the implementation of various programmes to identify shortcomings and improve service delivery to the people.
He added that the goal of development was not merely to achieve strong growth figures, but also to ensure that people from all ethnic backgrounds could enjoy progress and a more comfortable standard of living.
“For the state government, investments are not merely about the numbers. What matters most is how economic growth can benefit the people,” he said.
The state government is also focusing on high-technology sectors, the digital economy and high-value-added industries to enhance Selangor’s competitiveness and attract quality investments.
