KUCHING (Oct 23): Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will field a mix of new faces with capable and experienced leaders for the upcoming Sarawak State Election, said Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The GPS chairman said the coalition’s final list of candidates will be determined during a special meeting before being officially announced to the public in the near future.

Abang Johari noted that some elected representatives have chosen to step down on their own accord.

"What I can share here is that it will be a combination of the experienced and the young.

“Certainly, there will be new faces, some incumbents are not being dropped, but are instead choosing to step aside," he said during a press conference held after announcing the dissolution of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly at Dewan Perdana, Satria Pertiwi Complex, here on Friday.

During the press conference, he announced the dissolution of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly, effective Oct 26, to pave the way for the 13th state election.

GPS comprises four component parties namely Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United Peoples' Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), and the Parti Demokratik Progresif  (PDP).

In the Sarawak state election held on Dec 18, 2021, GPS won 76 out of the 82 contested seats.
