BEIJING (Oct 22): Foreign investment flows into China fell 4.3% year-on-year to 548.8 billion yuan (US$82.2 billion) in the first three quarters, while outbound non-financial direct investment totalled US$101 billion, China's commerce ministry said on Thursday.
The decline in foreign investment narrowed from the 5.3% drop in the first eight months, according to ministry data.
China faced headwinds in attracting foreign capital, including worsening geopolitical conflicts, weak growth momentum and a rise in protectionist and unilateral measures, a vice commerce minister said in a press briefing.
One bright spot was high-tech industries, where foreign investment surged 33.8% in the January-to-September period, the vice minister said, led by research, development and design services.
