(Oct 21): ASML Holding NV and other key providers of chipmaking machines have expedited supplies for Tesla Inc and SpaceX’s Terafab, Elon Musk said, signalling that the billionaire is making fast progress on an ambitious semiconductor project.

SpaceX is targeting volume chip production at its Terafab facility by the third or fourth quarter of 2028, Musk said.

“These are very aggressive dates, and we are very appreciative of ASML and all of our other suppliers in accelerating equipment deliveries in order to achieve this outcome,” Musk, the chief executive officer of Tesla and SpaceX, said during the latter company’s third-quarter earnings call.

Terafab is Musk’s plan for handling the mass-scale chip manufacturing needed by SpaceX and Tesla. The goal of the project is to make up for a shortfall in cutting-edge artificial intelligence processors and other chips from current suppliers such as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC).

An ASML spokesperson declined to comment. The Veldhoven, Netherlands-based company’s shares rose 2.1% in early Amsterdam trading on Wednesday.
