KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 19): Duopharma Biotech Bhd (KL:DPHARMA) said on Monday it has reached an amicable settlement with India’s Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd over a drug trademark dispute.

In its bourse filing, the group said the Indian pharmaceutical group had filed a notice of discontinuance at the Kuala Lumpur High Court “without liberty to file afresh and with no order as to cost”. Following the filing, the court vacated the trial which was due to start on Monday.

Duopharma did not disclose the terms of the settlement with Sun Pharma.

In February 2025, the group announced that Sun Pharma had filed the suit against its wholly-owned unit Duopharma Manufacturing (Bangi) Sdn Bhd at the Kuala Lumpur court.

According to Duopharma, both parties’ trademarks are used on drugs that come in tablet form and are used to lower cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of heart disease.

Sun Pharma alleged that Duopharma’s drug name, “Crystorvas”, infringed on its own registered trademark, “Storvas”, creating public confusion and passing off goods as associated with Sun Pharma.

In its suit, Sun Pharma sought an injunction against the use of the Crystorvas mark, the market recall and destruction of the drug, an order to invalidate the trademark, and an inquiry into damages.

Duopharma had maintained that its registration and use of the Crystorvas trademark were legitimate and vowed to vigorously defend the case prior to reaching the current settlement.

Duopharma shares ended one sen or 0.91% lower at RM1.09 on Monday, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM1.05 billion.
