KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 16): Two Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) workers were rushed to hospital after a fire broke out at a major electricity substation in Johor Bahru on Friday, causing power outages across large parts of the state capital.
TNB said in statement that the fire broke out at 6.03pm at the Kangkar Tebrau Main Intake Substation (PMU), disrupting power to parts of the Johor Jaya area.
"Two TNB technical personnel suffered injuries following the fire incident at the Kangkar Tebrau PMU.
"Both injured staff members are currently being rushed to a nearby hospital for further treatment," the utility provider said.
TNB added that the victims' families had been contacted and support would be provided to them.
The company said technical crews were at the site to contain the situation and carry out repairs.
Johor Jaya is a suburb northeast of Johor Bahru, and is adjacent to several industrial and commercial areas.
Unverified videos and pictures are circulating on social media claiming to show fire and a large plume of smoke billowing from a power station in Johor Bahru.
At time of writing, some social media users have reported that their power supply had been restored.
