KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 16): Genting Property Sdn Bhd, the property division of Genting Plantations Bhd (KL:GENP), has entered into a strategic partnership with Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd to master-plan Johor Tech Smart City (JTSC), including its flagship 430-acre smart campus within the Knowledge AI Campus.

According to a press statement issued on Thursday, the agreement marks Huawei’s first international smart campus partnership and the overseas deployment of its AI-enabled master-planning capability.

The landmark alliance was formalised via a master-planning agreement signed at the Shenzhen Longgang International Art Centre in Shenzhen, China, during Huawei's “Cloud-Powered Infrastructure – A New Digital Ecosystem” event.

Under the partnership, Huawei will integrate its global smart campus expertise and advanced AI capabilities into JTSC's foundational design, drawing from its smart campus deployments in Shanghai and Dongguan.

Beyond JTSC, the collaboration will serve as a launchpad for digital transformation across the broader Genting Plantations ecosystem, including agriculture technology, sustainable energy management and corporate infrastructure.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Genting Bhd (KL:GENTING) executive chairman Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay and Huawei supervisory board executive member and chief logistics officer Ren Shulu.

"This partnership answers a vital question we asked ourselves when designing JTSC: How do we build the future today to make a profound, real-world impact?" said Genting Plantations chief executive and executive director Datuk Lim Keong Hui in the statement.

"We believe technology must drive progress — progress defined by the local talent we empower and the draw of premier, highly sought-after investments that every progressive economy competes for," Keong Hui added.

Anchored by the 430-acre smart campus, he highlighted that JTSC will be a premier destination where global innovation unlocks local opportunity, shaping a progressive future through purposeful, strategic intent.

Huawei Malaysia Enterprise Business Group deputy CEO Du Xianjun noted that the blueprint was previously exclusive to Huawei’s own smart campuses in China.

"We are pleased to welcome Genting Property as our first international smart campus partner. While this blueprint was previously exclusive to Huawei’s own smart campuses in China, they are now open for global corporates to flourish in an integrated, lifestyle-driven innovation ecosystem," Du shared.

He added that the 430-acre smart campus in JTSC will serve as a benchmark new model for how future intelligent ecosystems are built and managed worldwide.

He also expected the development to catalyse the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone, attract global technology multinationals, accelerate local industry standards, and strengthen Malaysia's digital infrastructure capacity.
