KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 15): Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will serve the remainder of his prison sentence for the SRC International Sdn Bhd case under house arrest at his residence in Langgak Duta, Kuala Lumpur, with his family, according to several Malay dailies.

Najib’s lead counsel, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, confirmed that his client had received the house arrest order from the King, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, including an appendix detailing its conditions and implementation mechanism.

Speaking to reporters after proceedings at the High Court on Wednesday, Shafee reportedly said Najib had been advised by the Prisons Department not to disclose the contents of the order to avoid public and media speculation.

He also confirmed that the house arrest would take place at Najib’s residence in Langgak Duta, where the former prime minister would be allowed to live with his family.

On Sept 18, Sultan Ibrahim granted Najib a conditional pardon allowing him to serve the remainder of his six-year sentence for the SRC case under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to payment of a RM50 million fine.

The decision was made at the 64th meeting of the Federal Territories Pardons Board.

Najib is currently serving his sentence at Kajang Prison after the Court of Appeal and Federal Court upheld his conviction for misappropriating RM42 million from SRC, a former subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
