KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 14): A total of 27 data centre projects with an estimated investment of RM225.97 billion have been approved under the data centre task force (DCTF) up to July 2026, according to the Digital Ministry.

It said 16 of the projects are in Johor, 10 in Selangor and one in Negeri Sembilan, adding that one of the data centres has begun operating, while the rest are still under construction.

The ministry said this in a written reply to a question from Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi (PN-Kuala Langat) on the number of data centres approved under the DCTF by state and their economic spillover benefits for local communities.

It said the projects are expected to create 4,053 jobs, including 3,523 high-skilled positions in the fields of electrical and mechanical engineering, networking, cybersecurity, as well as data centre operations and maintenance.

Malaysians are expected to fill 89.21% of the high-skilled positions.

“Projects approved under the DCTF are subject to a minimum local content requirement of 30%, with implementation and compliance monitored by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) through project implementation reports that must be submitted every six months.

“To strengthen the technology and skills transfers, Talent Corporation Malaysia is developing a data centre facilities management programme to train local participants in skills related to data centre operations and maintenance,” the ministry said.
