KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 14): Malaysia’s retail prices for unsubsidised RON97 and RON95 petrol will drop by five sen per litre, while unsubsidised diesel will drop by 10 sen from Thursday (Oct 15) to Oct 21.

The Finance Ministry said in a statement that the price of unsubsidised RON97 will drop to RM5.10 per litre from RM5.15, unsubsidised RON95 will now be RM4.62 from RM4.67, and unsubsidised diesel will decrease to RM5.17 from RM5.27.

The government said the reduction of unsubsidised oil prices comes despite benchmark Brent crude oil prices remaining above US$100 per barrel.

The ministry said refined fuel supplies showed signs of recovery in the region, aided by resumed exports from China and continued shipments from South Korea.

However, it added that the widening conflict in West Asia, including last week’s attack on Saudi Arabia, increases the risk of supply disruptions and rising petroleum prices.

“Price uncertainty is expected to persist in the medium term,” the ministry noted.

The prices of subsidised petrol and diesel are unchanged at RM1.99 and RM2.10 per litre, respectively.

In Budget 2027, the government said it expected to spend RM40 billion on fuel subsidies next year aimed to support economic growth and safeguard livelihoods.

The ministry said fuel supply is sufficient but advised Malaysians to be prudent in their consumption.
