KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 14): The Malay Rulers have urged outsiders not to interfere in or politicise the dispute over the Negeri Sembilan throne, calling for the matter to be resolved by the relevant authorities through proper legal and customary channels.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by Keeper of the Rulers' Seal Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad on behalf of the Malay Rulers, all parties involved were urged to exercise wisdom, patience and respect for adab, adat and the dignity of the royal institution.
“The issue must never be exploited for political gain, to garner support, expand influence or advance agendas in a power struggle.
“Contradictory and irresponsible statements will only worsen the situation, heighten tensions, confuse the public and tarnish the dignity of the royal institution,” the statement read.
The Malay Rulers also called for differences to be resolved through legitimate and authoritative channels, guided by consultation, consensus, adat and the provisions of the Laws of the Constitution of Negeri Sembilan 1959.
“Opportunities for dialogue must be pursued sincerely to achieve a dignified resolution without belittling or humiliating any party," the statement said.
The Malay Rulers also stressed that the throne was a position of trust carrying immense responsibility towards the state and its people.
As efforts to resolve the dispute continue, the Malay Rulers urged all parties to preserve family ties, social harmony and respect for the royal institution while avoiding statements or actions that could aggravate tensions.
The statement warned that comments or actions made without a proper understanding of Negeri Sembilan's customs, history and constitutional framework could undermine public harmony.
"The public is also urged not to spread unverified information or be influenced by narratives that could divide society.
“Allow the relevant authorities the time and space to discharge their duties and responsibilities with wisdom and sound judgement," it said.
The Malay Rulers also prayed that Allah would grant all parties the wisdom to rise above emotions and place consensus above disagreement.
“Negeri Sembilan's interests, public harmony and the dignity of the royal institution must come first.
“In circumstances such as these, the best course is to observe proper conduct, respect the adat, exercise restraint in speech and refrain from interfering in matters beyond one's authority,” the statement said.
