PUTRAJAYA (Oct 12): Schools across Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Putrajaya will be closed Tuesday amid the ongoing haze.
In a Facebook post on Monday, Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek said the closures also affect schools under the Hulu Langat, Petaling Perdana, Kuala Langat and Sepang district education offices in Selangor, as well as those under the Kuantan and Rompin district education offices in Pahang.
However, she said schools in Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, Kedah, Kelantan, Perlis, Penang, Perak, Terengganu, Sabah and Sarawak will open as usual.
“Schools in other districts in Selangor and Pahang are not affected by the closures.
“For schools operating as usual, school authorities are asked to monitor outdoor activities according to current air quality conditions,” she said.
Fadhlina advised parents, pupils and school staff to wear appropriate face masks when outdoors, particularly in haze-affected areas, and to refer to official announcements from their respective schools, district education offices and state education Ddpartments for the latest updates.
Air quality was at unhealthy levels in 23 areas across the country as of 10am Monday, with Kota Tinggi in Johor recording the highest Air Pollutant Index reading of 170.
