KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 11): Penang’s ChinaHouse has always been a microcosm of coolness and creativity. But Men with Plants IV, happening until Nov 30 at its Art Space along Beach Street, has just upped the ante by quite a bit.
Led by Fuan Wong, one of Malaysia’s most renowned glass artists, the botanical-themed group exhibition showcases an array of creative works, from paintings to sculptures and installations inspired by the natural environment.
Tan Wei Ming, Rebecca Duckett-Wilkinson, Esther Geh, Jonathan Yun, Philip Hemnell and Ch’ng Kiah Kiean are among the talents featured.
“Come see the exhibition… Maybe, in its small way, seeing how the artists interpret plant life will sow the seeds of why we must stop destroying our jungles and green spaces. Where the plants go, everything — and I mean everything — else follows,” says Wong. Read more in our cover story this week.
Also not to be missed is Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s multisensory exhibition The Alchemy of Senses in Shanghai, China. Showcasing at Xintiandi Style 1 until Oct 18, it offers visitors the opportunity to enter the master perfumer’s visceral universe that was first captured in Icon(s): Maison Francis Kurkdjian (MFK), a Terminal 9 Studios documentary.
Meanwhile, Yeow Teck Chye, Fadilah Yakin and Raja Singham, the trio behind Art4Good: Painting from the Heart are banding together to raise funds for charity. Yeow is contributing over 100 watercolour paintings to the event at Bangsar Shopping Centre in Kuala Lumpur alongside Oon Soo Keat, Tan Ken Ming, Yoon Chooi Wan and eight-year-old Winsen Loke, the youngest participant in the show. Proceeds will benefit organisations supporting children and people with developmental challenges, such as the Society for the Severely Mentally Handicapped.
