KUCHING (Oct 8): SoftBank Group Corp, Grab Holdings Ltd, and Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros) have entered into a framework agreement to explore developing an artificial intelligence (AI) and digital infrastructure platform in Sarawak.

Under the agreement, the three parties will work together to develop a road map for the phased development of the platform, according to a statement from Petros.

The collaboration will also explore opportunities across the AI value chain, including AI compute and services capacity, advanced technology, robotics, local workforce and community development.

Petros will contribute energy supply and the supporting infrastructure while SoftBank, the Japanese investment firm, will bring its global technology and AI network, including expertise in AI infrastructure, advanced computing, semiconductors and physical AI.

Grab, meanwhile, will contribute its Southeast Asian digital platforms, applied AI capabilities, and regional customer and partner networks.

The framework agreement was signed by SoftBank chief executive officer Masayoshi Son, Grab co-founder and CEO Anthony Tan and Datuk Janin Girie, the group CEO of Petros.

The statement did not disclose an investment value or implementation timeline.
