KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 8): Johor-based bus operator Hi Mobility Bhd (KL:HI) has received a letter of intent (LOI) from the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) to operate the Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) programme in Johor Bahru for about four years.

Its wholly owned subsidiary Handal Indah Sdn Bhd (HISB) received the LOI from APAD, an agency under the Transport Ministry, on Thursday for the proposed appointment from Jan 1, 2027 to March 31, 2031.

In a bourse filing, Hi Mobility said the LOI is non-binding and sets out APAD’s intention to enter into further discussions on the service scope, contract terms and value, and other matters before any letter of acceptance is issued.

Hi Mobility said the proposed appointment would allow HISB to continue participating in the SBST programme in Johor Bahru, in line with its core competencies in smart mobility.

“By combining its technology integration, fleet management and operational execution capabilities, HISB seeks to translate these solutions into efficient and reliable public transport services that enhance connectivity and the commuter experience,” said HI Mobility.

The proposed appointment comes ahead of the scheduled February 2027 launch of passenger services on the Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link.

Hi Mobility is the sole Malaysian bus operator providing cross-border services between Johor Bahru and Singapore under its Causeway Link brand. It operates 155 buses across seven cross-border routes.

The group also operates 554 buses across 112 intracity routes and 33 buses across eight intercity routes in Johor, Melaka and the Klang Valley.

As at end July this year, Hi Mobility’s unbilled order book for contracted services stood at RM211 million, according to the group’s latest quarterly financial report.

Shares in Hi Mobility closed one sen or 0.56% higher at RM1.80 on Thursday, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM952.26 million.
