
KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 8): A total of 38 areas recorded Air Pollutant Index (API) readings at an unhealthy level as of 9am on Thursday.
According to the Department of Environment's (DOE) Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, Segamat, Johor recorded the highest API reading at 187, followed by Nilai, Negeri Sembilan (183).
Unhealthy API levels were also recorded in several areas in Selangor, namely Johan Setia (178), Shah Alam (170), Banting (167), Klang (166), Petaling Jaya (165), and Kuala Selangor (155) with Cheras (172) and Batu Muda in the capital with a reading of 168 and Putrajaya with a reading of 173.
As for Pahang, Rompin recorded 174 with Indera Mahkota and Balok Baru Kuantan at 165, while Temerloh also recorded unhealthy API at 153.
In Negeri Sembilan, the areas recording unhealthy API readings were Seremban (182) and Port Dickson (168), while in Melaka, the affected areas were Bukit Rambai (172), Melaka City (171), and Alor Gajah (167).
Meanwhile, in Johor, the affected areas were Pasir Gudang (180), Kluang (179), Larkin (178), Tangkak (172), Pengerang (165), Kota Tinggi (164), and Batu Pahat (161), while in Perak, the affected areas include Seri Manjung (160), Tasek Ipoh (159), Taiping (154), Pegoh Ipoh (153), and Tanjung Malim (152).
Additionally, two areas in Terengganu, Kemaman (155) and Paka (146), as well as three areas in Penang — namely Seberang Perai (156), Minden (155), and Seberang Jaya (153), and Sungai Petani, Kedah (153), also recorded unhealthy API readings.
A total of 30 areas recorded API readings at the moderate level, while no areas recorded API readings at the good level.
API readings between 0 and 50 indicate good air quality; 51 to 100, moderate; 101 to 200, unhealthy; 201 to 300, very unhealthy; while readings exceeding 300 are at the hazardous level.
