KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 7): Retail prices for unsubsidised petrol will increase by 15 sen from Oct 8 to Oct 14 as Brent crude oil hovers around US$100 per barrel despite the recovery of crude oil flows from West Asia.

Unsubsidised RON97 and RON95 will rise to RM5.15 and 4.67 from RM5 and RM4.52, respectively, according to a statement from the Finance Ministry.

The ministry said price pressures are now focused on refined petroleum products.

The government also cited China suspending much of its fuel exports for October for the tightening supply on the international market, driving up prices.

The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine also poses continued risks to petroleum supply stability, further affecting prices.

The ministry said recovering  global refining capacity and petroleum product supplies is vital to easing price pressure in the short term.

Unsubsidised diesel remains at RM5.27 for the coming week. The prices of subsidised petrol and diesel are also unchanged at RM1.99 and RM2.10 per litre, respectively.

The ministry said fuel supply remains sufficient for now but advised Malaysians to be prudent in their consumption.
