KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 7): Two businessmen on Wednesday claimed trial at the Sessions Court here to three charges of cheating a contractor of RM153,000 in connection with an offer of the vehicle registration number DFQ1.
Ee Tuck Lian, 38, and Wong Yoon Yee, 37, entered the plea after the charges were read out before judge Norma Ismail.
They were jointly accused of cheating Andrew Lim Jian Wei, 32, by deceiving him into believing that they were offering the vehicle registration number.
Their action allegedly prompted Lim to transfer RM153,000 through three transactions into several different accounts at a bank in Jalan Telawi 3 here between May 26 and June 17 this year.
The charges were framed under Section 420 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same law, which provides for imprisonment of between one and 10 years, whipping and a fine upon conviction.
Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Raihanah Abd Razak offered bail of RM50,000 for all the charges, with one surety for each accused.
The two accused, however, appealed for a lower bail, citing their family commitments and their cooperation throughout the investigation.
The court subsequently allowed each accused to be released on RM10,000 bail for all the charges, with one surety, and fixed Nov 27 for mention.
