PUTRAJAYA (Oct 5): The Road Transport Department, also known as JPJ, is able to provide services without the use of middlemen such as collection agents, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said.

Users are able to go through JPJ’s digital mobile platform, MyJPJ, which has seen a rapid climb in transactions and is being continuously updated, Loke said during a press conference on Monday. Around a fifth of users still use collection agents such as MyEG Sdn Bhd for JPJ services, he noted.

“Eventually we hope that most people can use MyJPJ directly with JPJ and do not have to go through any third party,” he said. “This is our aim, but to do that, we need to prepare.”

WATCH: No need for middlemen for JPJ services, says Loke

His comments came after JPJ suspended Zetrix AI Bhd (KL:ZETRIX) and MyEG as its collective agents effective Oct 5. The suspension comes after MyEG racked up RM314 million in arrears from May to September this year after it failed to remit collections to the government.

Zetrix AI, previously known as MyEG Services Bhd, has been collecting money for the renewal of vehicle road tax, driving licences and traffic summonses since 2000. Its latest three-year contract began in May 2023.

Loke underlined that he has taken steps to “open up and break down the monopoly” after he became transport minister in late 2022.

“For example, for KPP01 driver theory tests, previously all computer test centres were operated solely by MYEG,” he said. “If I hadn't taken steps two years ago to open this service to other driving institutes, today we wouldn't be able to suspend them because they would be the only provider.”

Further, MyJPJ is expected to see further revamp with new features to be announced next month, Loke said.
