KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 1): Battersea Power Station has submitted a planning application for a revised masterplan to shape the future of its remaining 16 acres of undeveloped brownfield land, according to a press statement issued on Sept 30.

Designed by urban designer and landscape architect Studio Egret West, the updated scheme aims to deliver up to 3.2 million sq ft of new residential, commercial, workspace, cultural, leisure, and community spaces within the 42-acre neighbourhood.

The submission marks the project's transition into its next regeneration phase as the overall development reaches roughly its midpoint, having recently surpassed 50 million total visitors since opening to the public in October 2022.

Battersea Power Station Development Company chief executive officer James Saunders said: "This milestone is even more significant given we are only around halfway through delivering the wider masterplan. There is so much more to come as we shape the next chapter of Battersea Power Station".

Construction is currently progressing on Prospect Place South, consisting of two Frank Gehry-designed buildings by Gehry Partners that will feature around 300 homes, 65,000 sq ft of commercial space, and a 15,000 sq ft Community Hub, while completing the pedestrianised high street, Electric Boulevard.

In addition, planning permission was granted for Phase 5 on an undeveloped brownfield site east of the power station, which will provide 200 high-quality council homes in collaboration with Wandsworth Council.

To date, Malaysian shareholders — comprising S P Setia Bhd (KL:SPSETIA), Sime Darby Property Bhd (KL:SIMEPROP), the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF), and Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) — have invested more than £5 billion into transforming the former industrial location.

The broader 42-acre project currently houses over 2,200 completed residential units, approximately 800,000 sq ft of office space, 170 retail and hospitality outlets, a six-acre public park, and a Zone 1 London Underground station.
