KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 1): PETRONAS said on Thursday the Songkhla export pipeline has been shut down temporarily after finding an issue during a routine inspection.
The shutdown of the pipeline will have an impact on gas supply to customers in Malaysia and Thailand, the company officially known as Petroliam Nasional Bhd said in a statement. The pipeline will resume operations only once it has been confirmed safe to do so, PETRONAS noted.
“Proactive measures are being taken to ensure continuity to customers in Malaysia,” the company said. “PETRONAS' integrated supply network provides the flexibility to sustain supply, and the company is working closely with its partners and customers to maintain system stability.”
The exact nature of the issue identified was not disclosed.
Trans Thai-Malaysia (Thailand) Ltd, PETRONAS’ joint venture with Thai state-owned PTT, operates the pipeline that connects natural gas production facilities in the Gulf of Thailand to processing plants in Thailand and Malaysia.
