KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 30): Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) on Tuesday (Sept 29) for observation, his son Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir said.
Mokhzani said there was no cause for concern over his father’s condition, adding that the decision to admit him was made to allow him to be monitored following the passing of his mother, Tun Dr Hasmah Mohd Ali.
“He was admitted to the IJN for observation. The past two days have been quite stressful for Tun M, but for now, he is okay and there is no cause for concern,” he said when contacted on Wednesday.
Hasmah, 100, passed away at the IJN on the morning of Sept 28 and was laid to rest at Pusara Negara (National Cemetery) in Precinct 20, Putrajaya, later that day with full state funeral honours.
Another of Mahathir’s sons, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, had previously said that his father had been at the IJN to accompany Hasmah throughout her treatment before she passed away.
Mahathir and Hasmah were married on Aug 5, 1956, and celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year. The couple have seven children.
