(Sept 29): Indonesian sovereign wealth fund Danantara is planning to open an investment office in Hong Kong, as it steps up allocations at home and abroad.

The fund has registered holding and finance subsidiaries in the Chinese city, according to company registry records. Danantara Investment Holding Hong Kong was incorporated on March 23.

Danantara is now looking to hire investment professionals for the Hong Kong team, according to people familiar with the matter, who asked not to be identified discussing private information. It is still scouting for office space in the city, one of the people said.

Hong Kong-based executive Sisi Liu leads Greater China and North Asia investments for the fund, according to the executive’s LinkedIn profile. Liu focuses on areas including artificial intelligence investments, robotics and advanced manufacturing.

Representatives of Danantara didn’t respond to requests for comments.

Founded in 2025, Danantara, Indonesia’s second sovereign fund, oversees hundreds of state-owned enterprises and controls assets that officials value at roughly US$900 billion (RM3.67 trillion). Chief investment officer Pandu Sjahrir said in August the fund is preparing to make its first allocations to hedge fund managers later this year as it seeks to diversify its portfolio.

The fund has also handed Swiss asset manager Partners Group a US$1 billion private credit mandate, people familiar with the matter said in August. It separately agreed to invest US$2.5 billion in a joint venture holding the Australia and New Zealand operations of meat processor JBS NV.
