KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 28): Poh Kong Holdings Bhd (KL:POHKONG) closed its financial year ended July 31, 2026 (FY2026), with a 59.6% surge in fourth-quarter net profit, as higher gold prices lifted margins and operating profit.
Net profit for the quarter jumped to RM36.20 million from RM22.68 million, as revenue grew 3.5% to RM378.36 million from RM365.5 million, its bourse filing on Monday showed.
The strong quarter capped a record-breaking year for the jewellery retailer, whose full-year net profit surged 59.7% to RM193.37 million from RM121.1 million in FY2026, as full-year revenue expanded 14.5% to RM1.93 billion from RM1.69 billion.
Both full-year revenue and bottom line are the highest for the group since its listing on Bursa Malaysia in 2004.
The group proposed a final dividend of five sen per share for FY2026, or RM20.52 million in total — up from three sen per share that amounted to RM12.31 million for FY2025 — subject to shareholders' approval.
Poh Kong attributed its stronger performance to the surge in gold prices during the quarter while the overall uptrend in gold prices supported its improved operation profit.
Gold prices, which hit a high of US$5,322.12 per ounce in March following the start of the US/Israel-Iran war, averaged at around US$4,596.44 between May and July, according to Bloomberg.
At the time of writing on Monday, gold prices were at US$4,156.05 per ounce.
On outlook, Poh Kong said Malaysia’s economy remained well-positioned despite a more challenging global environment, citing geopolitical tensions, softer external demand, inflation and currency fluctuations.
“We believe that strong central bank buying, consumer spending and safe haven inflows amid global geopolitical uncertainties will continue to fuel demand for both jewellery and gold investment products,” said the jewellery retailer.
It added that the company would continue to monitor the impact of the uncertainties on its operations and financials and is confident that the group has adequate measures to meet obstacles for FY2027.
Shares of Poh Kong slipped one sen or 0.9% to close at RM1.06 on Monday, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM435 million.
