KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 27): Quill Group of Companies Sdn Bhd and China Mobile International (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (CMI) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to jointly explore opportunities in artificial intelligence (AI) digitalisation and data centres in Malaysia.
The agreement aims to strengthen business ties between Malaysia and China and support collaboration in emerging digital technologies.
Under the MOU signed on Sept 24, the companies will explore potential projects, partnership models and customer opportunities in Malaysia. Any specific project or commercial arrangement will be subject to further assessment and separate agreements, the companies said in a joint statement.
Quill brings experience in property development, construction, data centres and high-technology facilities, while CMI provides connectivity, cloud, data centre and digital solutions.
Quill founder and executive chairman Datuk Dr Jennifer Low said the partnership builds on the group's experience in developing specialised facilities for technology-driven businesses.
Quill was a pioneer developer of data centres in Cyberjaya, Selangor in 2002, she said, adding that the experience helped the group develop purpose-built facilities tailored to customers' operational and technology requirements.
"This MOU brings together Quill's development experience and CMI's digital capabilities," Low said.
"We look forward to identifying practical opportunities that can create value for businesses in Malaysia," she added.
CMI managing director for Malaysia and Asia-Pacific mobile business director Adelyn Ong said the company aims to connect Malaysian businesses with opportunities across Asean, Asia, China and global markets, while bringing international capabilities and innovation into Malaysia.
Malaysia and China have in recent years expanded cooperation in trade, technology, the digital economy and infrastructure. Demand for data centres has also grown as AI, cloud computing, big data and other digital applications expand.
