KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 23): Rimbunan Sawit Bhd (KL:RSAWIT) said on Wednesday that a three-month disruption at its Ulu Teru Estate in Miri, caused by a blockade of the main access route, resulted in an estimated RM10 million revenue shortfall.

In a bourse filing, the Sarawak-based plantation firm said the blockade, which disrupted access to the estate since June 18, was lifted on Sept 15, while estate operations fully resumed on Sept 21.

“The board will continue to monitor the situation and management will take the necessary measures to safeguard the company’s operations and interests,” it said.

Ulu Teru Estate is operated by PJP Pelita Ulu Teru Plantation Sdn Bhd, which is 60%-owned by Nescaya Palma Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Rimbunan Sawit.

The estate spans about 7,900 hectares, or roughly 13% of Rimbunan Sawit’s total plantation land bank of 61,120 hectares in Sarawak.

On July 6, Rimbunan Sawit said access to the estate had been disrupted, affecting harvesting activities, transportation of fresh fruit bunches and certain estate operations.

The company, however, did not disclose the reason for the blockade in its latest announcement.

Shares of Rimbunan Sawit settled unchanged at 16.5 sen on Wednesday, giving the company a market capitalisation of RM336.9 million.
