KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 23): Police have opened an investigation into non-governmental organisation Mandiri Development Centre Sdn Bhd and arrested two of the company’s directors on Tuesday evening.

Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the two men were arrested at 3.53pm by the anti-money laundering criminal investigation team from the Inspector General of Police’s Secretariat at Bukit Aman.

They were detained to assist investigations under Section 4(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (Act 613).

“The investigation paper was opened on Sept 10 following a police report lodged after a review of the company’s receipt of funds suspected to be proceeds from unlawful activities between 2024 and 2026,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Mohd Khalid said police would conduct a comprehensive investigation in accordance with the law into all parties suspected of involvement.

The investigation would cover the holding, transfer and use of the funds, as well as their deposit into or withdrawal from accounts, where the funds were suspected to be linked to proceeds from unlawful activities, he said.

Mohd Khalid urged the public not to speculate or spread unverified information about the ongoing investigation to ensure that it proceeds smoothly.

On Tuesday, the two directors were summoned by police to have their statements recorded in connection with the investigation. They were arrested shortly after the process concluded.
