KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 21): Gamuda Bhd (KL:GAMUDA) and Australian construction group BMD Constructions Pty Ltd have secured a A$624 million (RM1.8 billion) contract to upgrade two roads in Western Sydney.
Transport for New South Wales awarded the Elizabeth Drive Upgrade-Mamre Road Upgrade Stage 2 project to the Gamuda-BMD Joint Venture (GBJV), which is equally owned by both parties, Gamuda said in a bourse filing on Monday.
Gamuda’s 50% share of the contract is expected to generate A$312 million, or about RM908 million, in revenue. The project commenced on Monday and is targeted for completion in 2030.
“The contract involves the design and construction of civil and structural works to upgrade the existing Elizabeth Drive and Mamre Road at Kemps Creek in Western Sydney,” Gamuda said.
The scope covers 4.5km of Elizabeth Drive and 3km of Mamre Road, alongside related civil, structural and utility relocation works.
The wider project is valued at about A$2 billion and is jointly funded by the Australian and New South Wales governments.
Gamuda said the award would further strengthen its presence in Australia’s road sector.
“The award represents a significant achievement for the joint venture and demonstrates Transport for New South Wales’ confidence in GBJV’s project-delivery capabilities,” it said.
“This project is significant for GE Australia and will further deepen design and construction capability in Australia’s road sector.”
The latest contract adds to Gamuda’s recent infrastructure activity in Australia. Earlier this month, the group completed and delivered its first road transport project in the country, the A$1.03 billion (RM3.03 billion) M1 Pacific Motorway extension from Black Hill to Tomago, ahead of schedule.
Gamuda also secured the A$880 million (RM2.54 billion) Sydney Metro West-Parramatta Integrated Station Development project earlier this month, in which it has an 80% effective participation.
The project involves the design and construction of the future Parramatta metro station and related infrastructure, marking the sixth station along the Sydney Metro West alignment to be delivered by Gamuda’s Australian operations.
For the third quarter ended April 30, 2026, Gamuda’s net profit rose 4.5% to RM257.98 million from RM246.84 million a year earlier, while revenue jumped 43.6% to RM4.44 billion from RM3.09 billion.
Gamuda said the latest road project is expected to contribute positively to the group’s revenue and earnings over its duration.
Shares of Gamuda during noon break were up eight sen or 1.7% at RM4.86 on Monday, valuing the group at RM29.4 billion.
