KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 18): Barisan Nasional (BN) welcomed with deep gratitude the decision by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, to grant a conditional pardon to former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, while respecting all conditions and processes set.
BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said BN Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the entire Supreme Council leadership, component parties and “Friends of BN” also expressed their profound gratitude to Sultan Ibrahim for consenting to the decision of the Pardons Board, allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
Zambry affirmed that BN would remain steadfast in upholding the principles of constitutional monarchy, parliamentary democracy and the rule of law, which underpin the nation’s peace, stability and prosperity.
“This decision carries great significance for Datuk Seri Najib and his family, as well as the entire BN family, who have consistently kept him in their prayers and hoped that matters concerning him would proceed smoothly,” he said in a statement on Friday.
Earlier on Friday, Sultan Ibrahim granted a conditional pardon to Najib, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to him paying a RM50 million fine.
The Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department said the decision was made at the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya at Istana Negara on Friday.
