KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 18): Sarawak Consolidated Industries Bhd (KL:SCIB) has announced that Datuk Chong Loong Men has resigned as non-executive chairman with immediate effect.

In a bourse filing on Friday, SCIB said Chong had resigned “due to personal reasons and other commitments”.

It is unknown if Chong would still remain as a substantial shareholder in SCIB, as he currently owns 40.54 million shares, or a 5.798% direct stake in the company.

His resignation comes months after he was redesignated from executive chairman to non-executive chairman on May 29.

Chong was appointed executive chairman on June 11, 2025, which is also the date he bought his substantial stake in SCIB.

Previous filings associated with Chong show this is the fourth time this year that Chong has resigned from the board of a company.

The first being at NexG Bhd (KL:NEXG) on March 9, 2026. He had resigned as executive director amid a boardroom tussle involving NexG founder Datuk Abu Hanifah Noordin, Velocity Capital Sdn Bhd — the financing arm of Velocity Capital Partner Bhd (KL:VELOCITY) and Siti Nur Aishah Ishak, who is the daughter of Datuk Ishak Ismail, the largest shareholder and executive chairman of NexG.

Chong had resigned as non-independent and non-executive director from both Erdasan Group Bhd (KL:ERDASAN) and Parlo Bhd (KL:PARLO) on May 29, citing “personal commitments”.

A former deputy public prosecutor and Securities Commission Malaysia executive, Chong was named in an exposé published by Bloomberg titled “Who’s Watching Malaysia’s Anti Corruption Watchdog?”.

SCIB did not disclose who will replace Chong as non-executive chairman.

Shares of SCIB closed flat at 11.5 sen on Friday, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM87.8 million.
