KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 18): Pakatan Harapan will hold a presidential council meeting on Friday evening to discuss current developments, according to a local news report.
The meeting, chaired by the coalition’s chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, is understood to be scheduled for 5.30pm at the Prime Minister's Office in Putrajaya, the New Straits Times reported on Friday without saying where it got the information.
On the meeting’s agenda is the position of Barisan Nasional in the administration, among other matters, the news site said.
The planned meeting comes on the heels of a conditional pardon for twice-convicted former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to serve out the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
DAP, the party with the most number of parliamentary seats in the coalition, had on Sept 14 called on Anwar to convene a meeting following statements made at the Umno general assembly including by its president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Zahid had challenged Anwar to call a general election for a fresh mandate, or else formally remove Barisan Nasional from the government. At the party’s post-assembly press conference, he maintained that Umno would remain in the government despite the ultimatum.
