SEPANG (Sept 17): Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir expressed his appreciation for the support shown by over 200 members of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) who gathered at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 here on Thursday night to welcome his arrival.
Tuanku Muhriz said this to reporters shortly after exiting the VIP lounge at 10.40pm together with Tunku Ampuan Besar Tuanku Aishah Rohani Tengku Besar Mahmud.
"I will return to the palace tonight," His Royal Highness said.
Asked if he would immediately resolve the Negeri Sembilan royal institution impasse, Tuanku Muhriz replied briefly: "Yes, insya-Allah, insya-Allah. Thank you, everyone."
Tuanku Muhriz was greeted with shouts of "Daulat Tuanku" by supporters who arrived clad in black attire with songkok as well as yellow shirts.
Also present was Tunku Besar Seri Menanti Tunku Ali Redhauddin Tuanku Muhriz.
Before departing for the palace, Tuanku Muhriz spent time mingling and shaking hands with the crowd.
Earlier, a peaceful gathering was held to demonstrate support for Tuanku Muhriz, involving several NGOs, including the president of Pertubuhan Otai Reformasi Negeri Sembilan (Profans), Waris Datuk Siamang Gagap, Waris Negeri Sembilan, and Pekan.
The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) in a statement on Thursday night said the proclamation regarding Tuanku Muhriz's position dated April 19 was invalid as it failed to comply with the mandatory requirements of Article 10 of the Laws of the Constitution of Negeri Sembilan 1959.
The AGC also clarified that the Menteri Besar and the Negeri Sembilan State Executive Council do not have unilateral power to depose or declare vacant the office of the Yang Dipertuan Besar.
Meanwhile, the Negeri Sembilan Dewan Keadilan dan Undang (DKU) reiterated that Tuanku Muhriz remains the legitimate Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan and chairman of the DKU.
