KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 15): YTL Power International Bhd (KL:YTLPOWR) said it has acquired four additional gas turbine units from Siemens Energy via reservation agreements.

The new reservations add to the three units previously secured by YTL Power, bringing the total to seven units, with a combined capacity of over 5,250MW, to support power generation projects in Malaysia and the wider region, according to a statement on Tuesday.

The deal supports YTL Power’s efforts to meet growing regional energy needs, driven by industrial growth, electrification, and the rapid expansion of data centres and AI. It also strengthens YTL Power’s existing investments in digital infrastructure, including data centres, YTL AI Cloud and AI models developed by YTL AI Labs.

“Energy is the foundation of the AI economy. By combining our power generation experience with our expanding capabilities in data centres and AI, we are building the infrastructure that will support our customers' growth and the industries of the future,” said YTL Power managing director Datuk Seri Yeoh Seok Hong in the statement.

Siemens Energy’s SGT-9000HL gas turbines are designed to offer high efficiency, operational flexibility and reliable power generation as electricity systems integrate higher levels of renewable energy.

“As demand for data centres accelerates, reliable and resilient power infrastructure will be critical to enabling this growth while strengthening the country's energy security,” Siemens Energy AG and executive vice-president, gas services Karim Amin said.

Shares of YTL Power closed lower at 2.99 or RM5.51 on Tuesday, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM48.11 billion
