KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 11): Malaysia Smelting Corporation Bhd (KL:MSC) said its 80%-owned subsidiary Rahman Hydraulic Tin Sdn Bhd (RHT) has received approval to resume mining operations from Friday.
In a bourse filing, MSC said RHT received the written approval from the Perak Department of Minerals and Geosciences.
On Aug 18, MSC announced that RHT had suspended mining operations at a tin mine located in Klian Intan, Perak, due to damage to drainage facilities caused by extreme rainfall on Aug 3.
"RHT remains committed to safe and responsible mining practices and compliance with applicable regulatory requirements," said MSC in the filing on Friday.
"RHT will continue to work closely with the authorities on matters and issues relating to environmental safety, protection and preservation. It will monitor weather and site conditions closely and implement appropriate measures to manage extreme weather-related risks," the group added.
RHT's mine is Malaysia’s oldest and largest open-pit tin mine, having been established back in 1907.
Besides RHT, MSC sources tin from mines in Pahang and Central Africa.
MSC’s shares closed up six sen or 3.45% at RM1.80 on Friday, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM1.51 billion.
