GEORGETOWN (Sept 11): Armed with RM100 million in cash, GUH Holdings Bhd (KL:GUH) is looking for new growth opportunities in printed circuit boards (PCB) manufacturing, especially for AI, network infrastructure, automotive electronics, medical devices and industrial automation.
Group managing director Datuk Seri Kenneth Hng told The Edge that GUH is focusing on AI, network infrastructure and industrial automation. Its IATF 16949 (automotive) and ISO 13485 (medical devices) certifications will also help the company enter these markets.
From 2022 to 2026, GUH invested RM62 million to upgrade its factories for producing more complex multi-layer PCBs.
The company is shifting away from low-end consumer PCBs and focusing on higher-value High-Layer Count (HLC) and High-Density Interconnect (HDI) PCBs. These products offer better margins and can help reduce the impact of weaker demand for consumer electronics.
GUH is also targeting North American and European OEMs to benefit from the “China Plus One” strategy, as companies diversify their supply chains outside China.
Its factories now use a High-Mix, Low-Volume model, allowing GUH to produce different products in smaller quantities, develop prototypes quickly and provide flexible engineering solutions while maintaining quality.
GUH has also exited its non-core plantation and electric vehicle assembly businesses to improve capital allocation and shareholder returns. The group now focuses on three main areas:
PCB manufacturing, which produces advanced HDI and HLC PCBs for technology-related industries, is GUH’s largest revenue contributor, accounting for more than 70% of total revenue.
Infrastructure, which involves water and wastewater treatment projects, road construction and other utility projects, and
Property development which involves asset monetisation at Taman Bukit Kepayang, as well as international schools and workers’ dormitories.
GUH reported a slightly higher net loss of RM5.97 million for the six-month period ended June 30, 2026 due to lower contribution from the property development division. This was against 17% lower revenue of almost RM94 million.
Meanwhile, Hng said GUH has received three of four payments for its 53,324.56 sq metres industrial land in Suzhou, which was compulsorily acquired by the Chinese government for RMB195 million (about RM119.01 million).
The remaining 20% is expected by end-September 2026, after the original June deadline was extended.
GUH signed the compensation agreement on 13 February 2025 and obtained shareholder approval on 26 May 2026. It has also met all regulatory and operational requirements for the payment.
