KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 10): Alam Maritim Resources Bhd (KL:ALAM) said an interim executive committee will lead the offshore services firm as its chief executive goes on leave over graft charges.

Datuk Azmi Ahmad, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, has taken temporary garden leave effective Thursday until further notice, according to an exchange filing. He remains a director at the company.

“The group shall continue its business as usual,” Alam Maritim said, adding that the committee will be supported by senior strategic adviser Datuk Aloysius Albert Michael, who heads a subsidiary.

Azmi was charged on Thursday with two counts of cheating by concealing the actual charter rates for vessels supplied to a joint venture with Lembaga Tabung Haji.

Alam Maritim is among 106 listed companies that Tabung Haji previously had an equity stake in. Those shares were transferred to special-purpose vehicle Urusharta Jamaah Sdn Bhd in 2018 in an effort to rejuvenate the financially ailing pilgrims fund.

Shares of Alam Maritim were unchanged at 23 sen on Thursday, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM103 million.
