JOHOR (Sept 10): Genting Simon Sdn Bhd, a JV between Genting Plantation Bhd (KL:GENP) and Simon Property Group, revealed that it will be expanding its Genting Highlands Premium Outlets’ (GPO) current net lettable area of 300,000 sq ft with its second phase of 70,000 sq ft. The development cost of the expansion is US$40 million or about RM170 million and is expected to be completed in 4Q2027.

This was revealed by Genting Simon Sdn Bhd president and COO Jean Marie Pin Harry to the media after the Genting Simon’s 15th Anniversary Celebration (from Sept 10 to 13) sale launch at Johor Premium Outlets (JPO) on Thursday.

He added that there will be 25 brands taking up the new space. One of those brands will be Nike where it will relocate from its current location to a larger space. Anta Group will also be unveiling some of its brands such as outdoor equipment brand Salomon. News of the other brands will be unveiled at a later date.

At the opening address of the anniversary sale launch, Genting Plantations Bhd chief executive and executive director Datuk Indera Lim Keong Hui said that since the opening JPO in 2011, the group continues to grow the outlet by investing in solar and EV charging stations.

“The success of Johor Premium Outlets gave us the confidence to grow. In 2017, we opened Genting Highlands Premium Outlets and last year we celebrated the opening of Jakarta Premium Outlets,” he said in his address.

Meanwhile, Jean Marie noted that JPO will also be undergoing a major upgrade next year although details are still being discussed.

As for future plans, he said that they are looking to expand within Indonesia but for now there are no firmed up plans.

The anniversary event was also attended by Johor State Unity, Heritage and Culture Committee chairman Pannir Selvam Paliksina Siwalinggam and Simon Property Group vice president of international development and finance Uchenna Akujuo.
