KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 7): Resorts World Langkawi, owned and operated by Genting Malaysia Bhd (KL:GENM), is collaborating with a unit of Singapore-listed marina developer and operator SUTL Enterprise Ltd to develop a new marina in Langkawi, with the development expected to receive its first yachts in the second half of 2027.
The ONE°15 Marina Langkawi will have more than 90 berths and accommodate superyachts of up to 140 feet, according to a joint statement issued by Resorts World Langkawi and SUTL Enterprise on Friday (Sept 4).
The development, to be located within Resorts World Langkawi, will provide access to yacht charters, island-hopping and other marine leisure activities. Visitors will also have access to the resort’s accommodation, dining and entertainment facilities.
“Strategically positioned along the Andaman Sea between Singapore and Phuket, Langkawi is a natural stopover for yachts navigating one of Southeast Asia's most established cruising routes.
“Supported by strong tourism infrastructure, international connectivity and duty-free status, the destination is well positioned for continued growth in marine tourism and waterfront experiences,” Resorts World Langkawi and SUTL Enterprise said.
Through the collaboration with SUTL Enterprise’s subsidiary ONE°15 Marina, Resorts World Langkawi looks forward to enhancing the island’s appeal as a premier island tourism destination, Genting Malaysia president Lee Thiam Kit said, offering visitors new ways to explore the island and its surrounding waters.
“This partnership also supports the Langkawi Development Authority's vision of strengthening Langkawi's position as a world-class tourism destination by enriching the island's tourism offerings and contributing to the sustainable growth of its maritime and leisure sectors,” Lee added.
SUTL Enterprise executive director and CEO Arthur Tay, meanwhile, said the development represents an important milestone in the continued expansion of the group’s marina network and reinforces its commitment to developing exceptional waterfront destinations across Asia.
“Strategically located along the Andaman Sea, between our existing marinas in ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove in Singapore and ONE°15 Marina Panwa Phuket in Thailand, Langkawi will strengthen a natural yachting route for boaters to plan seamless cruising holidays across these connected destinations,” Tay said.
At the time of writing, shares of Genting Malaysia were down one sen or 0.61% to RM1.63, valuing the group at RM9.68 billion.
