
KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 3): Bilateral trade between Malaysia and China expanded 30.6% year-on-year, reaching US$80.43 billion (RM325.3 billion) in the first half of 2026 (1H2026).
Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (Miti) Sim Tze Tzin said China’s strategic contributions remain a vital pillar of this economic strength, standing as Malaysia’s second-largest source of foreign direct investment at US$13.0 billion.
“This strong momentum has carried seamlessly into 2026, with approved investments from China reaching US$3.7 billion in the first half of the year alone,” he said in his keynote address at the Macao Business Leaders Meeting here Thursday.
It was co-chaired by Sim and the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) chief executive, Sam Hou Fai.
Sam arrived in Malaysia yesterday for a four-day working visit.
Sim said China continues to stand as Malaysia’s single largest trading partner.
“Malaysia and China share a profound, enduring friendship anchored in mutual trust, shared values, and deep- rooted economic cooperation,” he said.
In 2025, bilateral trade between the two nations reached an extraordinary US$541.55 billion.
