KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 1): Six areas in Sarawak recorded hazardous air pollutant index (API) readings as of 5pm on Tuesday, with the Serian district police headquarters recording the highest reading of 377.

According to data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, the five other areas in Sarawak which recorded hazardous API readings were Kuching (351), Sarikei (339), Sibu (325), Samarahan (323) and Sri Aman (304).

Three areas in the state recorded very unhealthy readings, namely Bintulu (250), Mukah (243) and Samalaju (230).

A total of 11 areas recorded unhealthy API readings, with the monitoring station at the Miri Industrial Training Institute (ILP) recording 191, followed by Miri (186), Kapit (186), Kota Kinabalu (177), Limbang (173) and Labuan (170).

Also recording unhealthy readings were Kimanis (166), Keningau (165), Politeknik Kota Kinabalu (159) and Tawau (153) in Sabah, while Johan Setia in Selangor recorded 156.

Meanwhile, 48 areas nationwide were reported to have moderate readings.

An API reading of zero to 50 indicates good air quality, followed by 51 to 100 being moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and above 300 hazardous.
