KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 28): Malaysia’s producer price index (PPI) increased by 9.7% in July 2026, slightly higher than a 9.2% increase in the previous month, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).

In its latest report, PPI local production for July, the DOSM said all sectors recorded increases for the fourth consecutive month. 

"The mining sector continued its upward movement, increasing by 30.5% in July, mainly driven by the extraction of crude petroleum (39.6%). 

"The manufacturing sector went up by 8.2%, attributed to the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (30.4%) and manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (10.5%)," it said in a statement. 

For the utility sectors, the DOSM said the water supply and electricity and gas supply indices increased by 10.2% and 6.7% respectively. 

On a month-on-month basis, PPI local production marginally increased by 0.7% in July, compared with 0.6% in the previous month. 

The mining sector rebounded with an increase of 1.1%, the manufacturing sector rose by 0.8%, and the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products gained 1.5%.

In addition, the agriculture, forestry and fishing sector increased by 0.7%, and the electricity and gas supply index recorded a marginal increase of 0.1%, while the water supply index declined by 1.4%.

In terms of processing stages, all stages recorded increases in July, with the crude materials index increasing by 24.1%, the intermediate materials, supplies and components index rising by 8.4%, and the finished goods index going up by 2.5%.
