KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 27): Construction firm Southern Score Builders Bhd (KL:SSB8) is positive on its prospects as it closed the financial year with an 82.6% surge in net profit in the final quarter, driven by higher revenue from turnkey construction services and mechanical and electrical services.
Net profit for the three months ended June 30, 2026 (4QFY2026) rose to RM21.27 million from RM11.65 million in the same quarter a year earlier, according to the group’s bourse filing on Thursday. Earnings per share rose to 0.94 sen from 0.51 sen.
No dividend was declared with the latest quarterly results.
Revenue for the quarter more than doubled to RM177.09 million from RM81.04 million, primarily on the back of higher contributions from 51%-owned mechanical and electrical services unit SJEE Engineering Sdn Bhd.
Mechanical and electrical services surged to become the group's main revenue contributor at RM96.21 million or 54.3% of total quarterly revenue, compared with RM23.6 million or 29.1% of revenue in the same quarter a year earlier.
The division's growth outpaced Southern Score's previous main revenue contributor, turnkey construction services, which contributed RM61.6 million or 34.8% of total quarterly revenue, up from RM38 million, or 46.9% of revenue, previously.
For the financial year ended June 30, 2026 (FY2026), net profit rose 65% year-on-year to RM66.38 million, while revenue jumped more than twofold to RM491.04 million.
Southern Score is optimistic on its prospects in the first six months of FY2027, as continued growth in digital infrastructure, industrial development and healthcare-related investments is expected to provide sustainable demand for the group's specialised services.
“While the construction industry continues to face challenges such as cost inflation, labour constraints and competitive pricing, the group believes that its integrated capabilities across the project value chain position it well to capitalise on emerging opportunities,” it said.
The expanding data centre market is expected to remain a key growth driver, Southern Score noted, complemented by increasing adoption of digital engineering solutions through building information modelling and growing demand for specialised laboratory design services.
Shares of Southern Score ended 1.5 sen or 2.56% higher at 60 sen, valuing the group at RM1.36 billion.
