ISKANDAR PUTERI (Aug 27): All 56 elected Johor assemblymen were sworn in on Thursday at the first meeting of the first session of the 16th State Legislative Assembly at the Sultan Ismail Building in Kota Iskandar.
The swearing-in ceremony before newly appointed State Assembly Speaker Datuk Zahari Sarip began with Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi (Barisan Nasional-Machap), followed by 10 state executive councillors and the remaining assemblymen.
In taking his oath, Onn Hafiz pledged to discharge his duties as an assemblyman to the best of his ability.
“I also swear and affirm that I will preserve, protect and defend the State Constitution,” he said.
Barisan Nasional secured a commanding mandate to govern Johor after winning 48 of the 56 seats in the 16th state election last month, giving it a substantial majority in the state assembly.
Pakatan Harapan won the remaining eight seats.
